Joint affiliate agreement entered into with US FS-ISAC ~Agreement concerning international cooperation including information sharing related to cyber attacks~

2015/02/20

On February 20, 2015 the General Incorporated Association Financials ISAC Japan and US FS-ISACentered into an agreement to cooperate in information sharing to confront increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks and to promote increased future cooperation.

The agreement was signed/sealed at a full members’ workshop held on that day and exchanged between Mitsuyoshi Sugaya, Chairperson Director, Financials ISAC Japan and William B. Nelson, President&CEO, FS-ISAC during his visit to Japan and from that day came into force and effect.

US financial institutions are at the cutting-edge of cyber security defenses, and further as the predecessor to Financials ISAC Japan, US FS-ISAC activities, through wide scale information sharing among US financial institutions has contributed to the safety and security of the industry.

There have been many cases where there has been a significant time lag between a new attack being identified in the US and that attack being communicated to Japan, and further as regards information sharing between the parties, by utilizing the time difference, timely defenses can be put in place. This means that this new cooperation agreement which combats cyber attacks will greatly contribute to the safety and security of financial institutions both within Japan and the US.

Financials ISAC Japan, since its establishment last year, has been promoted as an association that strengthens relationships with US FS-ISAC and also realizes sophisticated and advanced information sharing. The affiliate agreement entered into at this time will further strengthen our cooperative activities in the future.

  • ※ FS-ISAC:Financial Services Information sharing and Analysis Center: Centering on financial institutions in the US, FS-ISAC has more than 5,200 financial institution members, making it a leader in information sharing to prevent cyber attacks.
